The EMCA 2025 training course focuses on addressing the escalating issue of insecticide resistance in mosquitoes. Participants will engage in both theoretical and hands-on learning, delving into key mechanisms of insecticide resistance. Through a combination of short lectures, structured discussions, and practical exercises, attendees will gain a basic understanding of insecticide resistance monitoring and explore methods how to measure this growing threat. By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key mechanisms driving insecticide resistance in mosquitoes

  • Explain the latest trends and challenges associated with insecticide resistance

  • Implement practical techniques for monitoring insecticide resistance

Key elements:

  • Lectures on insecticide classes, insecticide resistance types in mosquitoes and respective monitoring methodologies such as bioassays and molecular diagnostics

  • Practical sessions on phenotypic resistance measurement techniques:

    • WHO insecticide bioassay with adult mosquitoes

    • Insecticide-treated bednet efficacy test

    • Insecticide behavioral assay

    • Plant-based oil larvicidal assay

Please note that participation is limited to 24 participants. Selection will be done by the EMCA 2025 Scientific Committee.

The Scientific Committee reserves the right to select participants based on their qualification (career level, sector) and their motivation to further use the knowledge gained in this training course. We will promote diversity in gender, geography, and sectorial and institutional affiliations.
